XLPE
XLPE Full Form:
Cross-Linked Polyethylene
What is XLPE?
Cross-linked polyethylene is referred to as XLPE. It shares several characteristics with polyethylene, such as outstanding moisture resistance and good chemical resistance. Due to its great thermal insulation capabilities, it may be used in high voltage and temperature environments. Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) is frequently used in plumbing (or pipework) systems for buildings, as high-voltage cable insulation, and as an alternative to copper and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) tubing in water pipes.
How is XLPE made?
During the creation of XLPE, a catalyst (peroxide) is absorbed into the resin, producing a free radical. The free radical causes the polymer chain to crosslink, combining all of the molecules in the tank into one.
Additionally, XLPE Sheets and Rolls are made from closed-cell cross-linked polyolefin foam. delivering exceptional condensation control, long-lasting heat blocking, and sound absorption. The XLPE polyolefin foam sheets and rolls are offered for sale as a standard sandwich product comprised of foam, aluminium foil, and a self-adhesive backing. More options include foam with self-adhesive backing, foam with aluminium foil, and plain foam. To satisfy customer preferences, a variety of colors are available for the foil and foam in addition to the standard silver foil and grey foam.
XLPE uses/forms
The use of XLPE cable is advantageous in a variety of electrical applications as well as plumbing and mining. Cross-linked polyethylene cables are utilized not only in the chemical industry but also in the commercial and residential heating industries. XLPE is widely used for following purposes-
