PBT
PBT Full Form:
Polybutylene Terephthalate
What is PBT?
PBT, or polybutylene terephthalate, is a thermoplastic compound with a semi-crystalline structure that is employed in engineering. Its composition and characteristics are comparable to those of PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate). In addition, PBT belongs to the family of polyester polymers. Terephthalic acid is used in a procedure known as polycondensation to create this substance. Additionally, 1,4-butanediol and dimethyl terephthalate can be used to make it. This approach, however, has to be produced using a unique catalyst.
How is PBT made?
PBT is produced by polycondensing either terephthalic acid or dimethyl terephthalate with 1, 4-butanediol using special catalysts. Commercial interest has been drawn to the wide number of industries that polybutylene terephthalate can be employed in, including automotive, electrical and electronics, medical, and many more.
PBT uses/forms
The electrical and electronics sectors employ the thermoplastic engineering polymer polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) as an insulator. Some of the common uses of PBT are listed below-
